Location Moreelsebrug - bridge
It feels a little bit weird walking up and down the stairs of the Moreelse Bridge. This is because the bridge wants to facilitate pedestrians and cyclists alike. But there was not enough space for a long ramp that is not too steep, so that cyclists could cycle up and down safely. So now you have to get off your bike and walk up and down the stairs with your bike in hand. As a result, the stairs had to be made less steep than is usual for pedestrians.
On top of the bridge you see a long row of trees. At first the trees were not allowed to be placed on the bridge. The railway company Prorail was afraid that the fall of leaves on the tracks in the autumn time could disrupt train traffic. Fortunately, a species of trees was found with relatively small leaves that fall very gradually in autumn time, that do not stick to the tracks, and therefore will not disrupt train traffic: the Persian iron wood. And so now there is a beautiful row of trees on the bridge over the busiest train tracks in the Netherlands.
